Club History

  • The Club was started from members of the French & Belgian Club on Heim Avenue in Butler.
  • On August 29, 1969, an Application for Charter was filed in the Court of Common Pleas of Butler County Pennsylvania for the name of “C.L.B. Hunting and Fishing Club”.
  • On September 10, 1969, the Charter and the Articles of Incorporation for the “C.L.B. Hunting and Fishing Club” were granted as a Non-Profit Corporation with the address of 210 Heim Avenue, Butler, Pennsylvania 16001.
  • The property, which was mostly an abandoned strip mine, was purchased on November 27, 1971, from Emerson & Dorothy Streit and Jackson & Ethel Craig for $8,000.00. On November 30, 1978, due to inadvertence on the original deed, corrections were made and a new deed was filed in Butler County. The property contains 53.52 acres.
  • In the mid 1970,s a grant was filed for under the Federal Mine Reclamation Act and granted. The Army Corps of Engineers reclaimed the strip mine, making it similar to what it looks like today.
  • On February 11, 1987, at the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, Department of State Corporation Bureau, the name of the club was officially changed from” C.L.B. Hunting and Fishing Club” to “Summit Township Sportsman's Club”.
  • The name on the Deed was officially changed from “C.L.B. Hunting and Fishing Club” to “Summit Township Sportsman's Club” and filed in Butler County on March 20, 1990.
